Saturday after pancakes we had a little May Day (Beltane) celebration. It's the beginning of the summer season, and it shows. Our tomato plants are in...

...and they're starting to flower...

...well, except for the ones that the deer ate the top of - ugh - my tomato plants seem to be plagued with some sort of attack every year... usually it's gophers... this year it's deer...

...we're cooking and eating outside

...and we're playing in the yard A LOT!

In honor of such things we did a maypole for the first time... and it was fun. We sang and danced and laughed as we tried to weave ourselves around. It was perfect! I know the symbolism of the maypole isn't exactly kid stuff... but if we just stick to the joys of summer, laughter, and sun, it was all in fun... and it worked to raise our spirits after a long spring of off-and-on rain.

Happy May everyone!
