Snow adventures!

And I mean SNOW! We went up to Bear Valley with Mike's brother and his family for a few days... immediately on the heels of the biggest snowstorm this year! We rented a cabin in Bear Valley Village, which is unplowed... so you get a snowmobile when you rent the cabin.

Because of the weather we split our drive into two days... the first, Friday evening in horrible traffic in the pouring rain. The second leg was Saturday morning, which, because of snowfall Friday, required chains for the last hour of our drive. We got to Bear Valley thinking we had made it. We loaded the sled behind the snowmobile and off we went to find the cabin...

Yup... THAT cabin. We had to wade through 8-foot-deep powder (the snow shovel was inconveniently INSIDE said cabin). Luckily, we had remembered our snowshoes, or I don't know what we (read: Mike) would have done.

Here's what the snow was like... when Mike fell back into the snow to make a snow angel it almost swallowed him whole!

Once there we enjoyed ourselves... riding the snowmobile...

And sledding, of course... ready... set... GO!

...steady...
...uh-oh!...
...wipeout!....
...whew... it's OK...

It turned out that the snow was so powdery that you couldn't make a snowman out of it. And all these years I thought that the adults in my family just told me that there was such a thing as "bad snow for making snowmen" just because they didn't want to go outside with us. Sheesh... sorry guys!

However, the new fallen snow and the beautiful weather made it a winter wonderland to be sure.

Thanks to the family that endured the adventure with us! It was totally worth it!!!
